What is Automobile Insurance?
November 11, 2020
The personal auto insurance policy provides broad coverage for liability (bodily injury and/or property damage that you might cause to another person), and coverage to cover you and your live-in relative’s bodily injury that results from an auto accident, and/or your property damage. The auto insurance company is responsible for negotiating and settling claims on your behalf.
Everyone needs auto insurance even if your vehicle is paid off. According to the Insurance Information Institute, one in eight drivers are uninsured and/or underinsured. Just like many states, Florida financial responsibility laws requires that anyone who owns a vehicle purchase auto insurance with at least minimum coverage limits. In Florida, the minimum coverage required is bodily injury, property damage and personal injury protection. Bodily Injury Coverage (minimum limits, $10,000/$20,000) will pay medical bills of a person or persons that you injure as a result of an auto accident. Property Damage coverage (minimum limits $10,000) will pay to repair or replace the property of another person that you damage as a result of an auto accident, and Personal Injury Protection coverage will pay for medical bills related to injuries that you or your live-in family members suffer in an automobile accident, regardless of who was at fault.
